When a Horse and owner come to me for a lesson from beginner to Grand Prix Level
The experience gained during a lifetime of working with horses enables me to diagnose elements of its past that are affecting its current physical condition, training or behaviour.
I have a unique understanding of the horse’s body language when it comes to me in a lesson. The body tells me about its past training and present problems. The body never lies.
Has it had problems or an incident that would leave it mistrustful of people and resistant or defensive?
If the horse is defensive at the start, I spend time becoming a friend – only when horses trust will they work positively. In the beginning, no other approach works as well in gaining their trust and confidence, or towards creating the foundation of a good relationship.
First I work the horse In hand – never under saddle to begin with – for I want to observe the horse’s character, posture, level of ability and body work needed, in order to devise the proper training regime.
